Raymond Blanc

Le Festival aux Quat'Saisons 2009

Thursday 1 October - Saturday 3 October 2009

Though Le Manoir is half way through its 25th Anniversary year the celebrations continue and even get better. The autumn line up includes the return of the world’s favourite bass-baritone  and best-known Welshman, Bryn Terfel, along with other great performers. We look forward to welcoming all our artists – and you.

Le Festival aux Quat' Saisons attracts world-class artists. Created by Raymond Blanc 18th years ago, it is now a permanent event on the culture calender. Our quarter-century extravaganza features The AllStars Collective with Jocelyn Brown, supreme violinist, Chloe Hanslip and international  opera stars Bryn Terfel and Rebecca Evans, accompanied by pianist and Radio 3  presenter Iain Burnside..

At each event, on arrival at Le Manoir you will be received with our favourite Ruinart Champagne and some special canapés. Your pathway to our neighbouring St Mary's Church will be lit by flaming torches, and the pews bathed in candlelight; the most intimate setting imaginable in which to enjoy the recitals.

On your return to Le Manoir, Raymond’s team will have prepared a splendid four-course celebration dinner with carefully matched wines, to ensure you have a completely memorable evening.

Dress is black tie and you will be seated at tables with fellow guests in either La Belle Epoque or the restaurant. Reservations are taken on a strictly first-come first-served basis, so we strongly recommend early booking.

The Artists

Thursday 1st October 2009 – The AllStars Collective with Jocelyn Brown

In 2008 “The AllStars” released their debut album featuring the fabulous Soul Diva, Jocelyn Brown. Their hits include the timeless anthems "Somebody Else's Guy", "Always There". Her uncredited vocal hook for Snap's "I Got The Power" is just one of countless examples of Jocelyn’s voice being sampled across the genres, each one testifying to her indelible impact on contemporary music.

Almost every contemporary music fan owns albums on which The AllStars Collective play, whether by Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Massive Attack, or a host of others. They are the unsung heroes at the heart of perpetuating the UK's place as a centre of global excellence in music.

This eagerly anticipated performance at Le Manoir is a world exclusive event, combining Jocelyn's and The AllStars talents in a relaxed jazz line up, reworking some timeless classics and Jocelyn’s own hits in a unique musical setting.

Friday 2nd October 2009 – Chloë Hanslip

Though aged only 21, Chloë Hanslip has already established herself as an artist of distinction on the international stage.
Chloë was recognised when she appeared as the 'infant prodigy violinist' in Ralph Fiennes’ film adaptation of Pushkin`s 'Evgeny Onegin', and made a significant contribution to Maxim Vengerov’s Master Class, shown on Channel 4 and throughout Europe, as part of the documentary 'Playing by Heart'. Chloë’s mentor for 10 years has been the Russian pedagogue Zakhar Bron. She has also worked with Robert Masters, Ida Haendel, Salvatore Accardo, and Gerhard Schulz.

Her recent recordings for Naxos have received outstanding reviews and range from  John Adams’ Violin Concerto (1993) to the Concerto Romantique for violin and orchestra (1876) by Benjamin Godard.

Chloë’s two earlier CDs with the London Symphony Orchestra for Warner Classics, won her, respectively, the German 'Echo Klassik Award for Best Newcomer' (2002), and 'Young British Classical Performer' at the Classical BRITS (2003). Her impressive recording catalogue continues to grow with a recital disc of works by Bazzini, which gained superlative reviews, and her latest recording - Hubay Concertos with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra – will be released in 2009.

Saturday 3rd October 2009 – Bryn Terfel and Rebecca Evans; piano: Iain Burnside

We are delighted to welcome back to Le Festival Bryn Terfel and Rebecca Evans. They wowed the audience in 2006, and their return is a highlight of this year’s 25th Anniversary Festival.

The Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel has a global reputation performing at all the great opera houses of the world. His versatility as a concert performer sees him singing at the Last Night of the Proms to the Royal Variety Show. He is a Grammy, Classical Brit and Gramophone winner.

Soprano Rebecca Evans was born in South Wales and has established herself as a major operatic performer across Europe and America. She has appeared at venues as diverse as the Royal  Opera House, the Met, Chicago’s Lyric Opera and the Melbourne International Festival. She too is a Grammy winner.

Rebecca and Bryn will be accompanied by Iain Burnside, the affectionately admired Radio 3 presenter.
