The Raymond Blanc National Heritage Garden Competition
This competition has been conceived to raise awareness of the on-going work by Garden Organic in promoting organic gardening methods and the huge importance of preserving knowledge and use of heritage plants through its Heritage Seed Library.
The competition has two elements. The first invites registered members of the Society of Garden Designers to enter a master plan and planting plan for the new Heritage Garden. The winning design will be chosen for its ability to create a perfectly integrated eco system and will include consideration of its carbon footprint, organic varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs. The successful designer will be responsible for the overall planning and planting and for overseeing the building of the garden, working alongside the team at Le Manoir.
The second part of the competition will invite entrants for a scholarship to work alongside the designer and Le Manoir garden team. The winner will be offered the opportunity of a work placement at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons – he/she will have the opportunity to observe and participate in the whole process of designing, building and planning the prestigious new Heritage Garden at Le Manoir. The aim of the scholarship will be to provide the winner with the skills to grow a career in gardening and horticulture. With input from Le Manoir, Garden Organic and the Society of Garden Designers, the scholar will be afforded an integrated programme of gardening, horticulture and design; the perfect springboard for a well-rounded professional.
