Raymond Blanc visits Berkhamsted ahead of opening of Brasserie Blanc

22 March 2012

On 21 March, Raymond Blanc visited Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire, where the latest Brasserie Blanc is to open shortly.

Raymond visited the town to check on the progress at the fitting out of the new Brasserie Blanc there, which will open on 2 April.

As part of his visit, he went to the local St Francis Hospice shop and met fundraisers there. They told us about their award winning Chef Chris Took and how important his work is at the hospice, providing much needed healthy nutrition.

Raymond then visited the historic Berkhamsted School (dating back to 1541) to see their new food technology building. Pupils in year 9 (age 13/14) cooked cherry clafoutis which Raymond tasted and judged the best girls and best boys! He also met with French students shortly off to university and chatted with them all. Raymond then joined children and staff for lunch in the main hall.

His final visit was to the Swan Youth Centre where Raymond met children who pop in after school and he gave a heartfelt and inspirational speech. His passion about how hard life can be and how you must never give up.. left children visibly moved.  Raymond then shared the cherry clafoutis baked at Berkhamsted School with the children!
