TUESDAY 16 NOVEMBER 2010                 PEDAL YORKSHIRE LUNCH FOR MARIE CURIE CANCER CARE

A fundraising lunch at Brasserie Blanc, Leeds, for Marie Curie Cancer Care

Hello friends

Yesterday was a good day. I started from home at 6am, and finally reached Leeds after 10am. Oh, mon dieu, how I wished I could be whisked away by a fast bullet train or a TGV! I wonder how long we will have to wait for this sort of rail network? Nothing is perfect!

The fact is, though, that yesterday was a perfect day. We were at Brasserie Blanc in Leeds, holding a special luncheon to raise money for Pedal 4 Yorkshire - a fantastic charity which raises funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Of course, this year I could not ‘pedal’ as my leg is still fragile! However, I was there to meet over 100 guests, all willing to part with their money for this great cause. Who has not has their life touched by cancer among their family and friends?

I met some extraordinary people yesterday with whom it was good to talk: people who have lost friends and loved ones. I felt a part of it, and as always, feel so honoured to be the patron of Pedal Yorkshire.

Due to the amazing efforts of Fiona Movley, founder of Pedal Yorkshire, and her incredible team, this lovely and moving lunch raised £4,000 taking the total raised so far for Marie Curie Cancer Care in Yorkshire to over £25,000. A huge thank you to all those involved, and to Yorkshire Life for their support of the event.

If you would like to make your own donations to support the wonderful work, you can do so by visiting the Marie Curie Cancer Care website (click here).

Best to you all
