FRIDAY 18 MARCH 2011                             ON THE DAYBREAK SOFA WITH CHRISTINE & ADRIAN

A very early start...

Hello friends

Yesterday morning I was collected from Le Manoir at the unearthly hour of 5.30am to be taken to the ITV studios in London. I was joining Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles on the Daybreak programme to talk about my new television series and book - Raymond Blanc Kitchen Secrets. I honestly do not know how Adrian and Christine manage to be up, cheerful and ready to go at such an early time five days a week! It would not suit me - but chefs are usually night birds. As usual Adrian had to tease me about how badly France lost to England and then disgraced themselves against Italy!! It is not always easy to be a Frenchman!*

We watched a clip of the next episode, where I look at all sorts of charcuterie, and then I had to taste Adrian's chocolate mousse which he had made at home and brought in to the studios. Well, I can understand that he might have been nervous offering me his food. And I hope I was not ungracious.

I could have said on camera that Adrian's chocolate mousse tasted of  rancid oil, gooey chocolate reminiscent of an old Mars bar... especially after he insulted la belle France. But I did not, because actually his chocolate mousse was quite nice. A bit rich because he had over whipped the egg whites, a bit grainy... and he used the wrong chocolate... but otherwise it was delicious!

I very much enjoyed watching the Irish dancers - thank goodness I didn't have to get up and dance with them!

Thank you Adrian and thank you Christine.

Best RB
